Travel Blog: Weekend Staycation At KSL Resort, Malaysia, 30-31 Mar 13

What's a good weekend getaway? We wanted to find that out by booking a night's stay at KSL Hotel & Resort in Johor, Malaysia. We booked a Superior King room with 2 breakfast online. Final price is RM340, which is about SGD130+. Quite a good deal I guess, for a 5-star hotel in JB. Getting there from the customs is fairly easy. Take a bus from JB Sentral, which wouldn't cost you more than RM2. The bus will stop right at the drop-off point of KSL, so there's no worries about rain or shine.

We checked in rather late, due to some delays in the checking in process, and also they needed an hour to prepare our room. Therefore we went to walk around before checking with the reception again at 5pm. The room was quite spacious, but the bedsheet a bit old and even has a hole lol. Overall still not much to complain about. The view ain't great either, cos not much you can see except rows and rows of apartments in JB.

Beautifully-decorated Superior Room.

The toilet was clean, and comes with standard things you find in every good hotel toilet.

The only thing we were unhappy about was that the bedsheet came with a hole!

Looks comfy enough doesn't it?

We visited the rooftop pool after checking in. Not bad a pool as there were jacuzzi spots around the sides of the pool. You can even rent all kinds of floats, like banana boat, etc. But mainly for kids though. There's even a dinosaur water theme park, right next to the pool. But of cos you need to pay some entrance fee. Quite expensive though and doesn't seem like really interesting, no wonder nobody went in. After that, we went back to our rooms and dried ourselves before going to the mall itself for some shopping and dinner.

We had our dinner at Swenson's. (Shouldn't we try something that can't be found in Singapore instead!?) Then it's a whole night of shopping within the KSL Mall itself. And the best thing was all we had to do was to find the lift that goes up to our hotel room after our shopping, without even having to cross a road or take public transport.

The next day, we had buffet breakfast at the hotel cafe. Pretty wide range of Asian, Chinese and international goodies. There's nasi lemak too so if you're Singaporean or Malaysian, you'll certainly enjoy the spread there is to offer.

Too few pix of the nice food they have there lol.

Before we checked out of our room, we took a final view of the scenery from our hotel room. Not much to enjoy though.

We then took a bus back to City Square JB. Then it's a whole day of shopping and fooding once again. We love the Hui Lau Shan dessert franchise from Hong Kong and thankfully it came to JB. Of course we didn't hesitate to order its signature mango desserts after a whole day of shopping. We also got some pudding from the cafe called Lavender.

Dear enjoying the pudding.

It was a wonderful weekend stay in JB, with the first day at KSL and second at City Square. Usually we would just spend a day travelling to either of these two malls but this time we combined the two with a hotel stay at KSL. Definitely a great way to relax and shop your weekend away this way.
