Hong Kong Macau Trip 2011 Souvenirs

Look at our souvenirs!

Actually less than half belongs to me. The rest belongs to Momo dear hahaha.

The row of coins at the bottom are Hong Kong Disneyland coins. Cost HKD 10 each.
I have a bunch of the Tokyo Disneyland coins at home waiting for these to join them in my collection.

The column on the right are ticket stubs from all the places we've been to:
- Dragon's Treasure @ City of Dreams casino
- Ferry tickets from HK to Macau
- Tickets to The Peak
- Tickets to Madam Tussaud's
- Tickets to Hong Kong Disneyland
- Invalid Fast Pass tickets from Hong Kong Disneyland (to keep as souvenirs)

I got 3 shirts from Espirit, 1 from Quiksilver, 1+1 game magazine, half of the foodstuffs and... that's it! Women sure like to shop hahaha! =P

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 08/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第七天

What?!? So fast last day already? Oh man...

Time really flies. It's the last day in Macau and last day of our trip. Nevertheless, we had some last minute fun. I brought Dear to the Macanese Restaurant just behind L'Arc casino to have lunch.

There was some special promotion for a partial buffet set. Comes with a main dish plus free flow of salads and desserts. The main sux sia. Salads still not so bad.

After lunch, we went to the nearby 24-hours convenience store and Dear got some last minute goodies. I bought some magazines too. Then we visited the L'Arc casino just across the road to try out luck. We lost HK$60 at one point but eventually managed to win HK$72 on our last try. LOL

Then we headed back to our hotel and took our luggage and took a cab to the airport. Goodbye Macau!

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 07/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第六天

We were so lethargic and lazy in the morning after such a tiring day traveling from Hong Kong on the previous day, we decided to order the hotel breakfast sets. Such indulgence!

A hearty breakfast for a bright new day in Macau. We took a short nap after the meal lol. Charged up our batteries and proceeded to grab a cab to visit the Ruins of St. Paul's. But we were told by the taxi-driver that we should just walk there ourselves since it's less than five minutes of travel on a cab. Diao...got business also don't wanna take. We then walked along the streets and visited some shopping area and then finally to the Senado Square.

The whole square was swarming with tourists and the sun was blazing hot. Totally had no mood to look around much. We visited one of the churches there and proceeded to walk along the paths to one of the junctions just before the ruins. We got ourselves the famous pork cutlet buns and some egg tarts and bubble tea from the once famous stall, but it was now not so crowded anymore. I wonder why. Then I decided to take a gamble and took a more secluded route to try to reach the ruins. That path was totally void of tourists save for a few locals walking past. If we took the main path, we would be squeezing with tonnes of other tourists under such obscene weather. Luckily my gamble paid off and we wondered around freely to reach this lovely place, which was just beside the ruins.

We could see the ruins from our position at quite a nice angle.

This little pathway was called Travessa Da Paixão or 戀愛巷.

Not the nicest of places for a picture. See all the graffiti on the wall.

There was graffiti on the walls which were mostly love confessions of couples who visited this place. There's even a Wiki article on this place. Such luck and fate that we managed to stumble upon this place hehe.

We then climbed up the stairs and up a steep slope to reach the side of Ruins of St. Paul's. Certainly the best way to reach there if you don't wanna squeeze with the crowd.

Mission accomplished! Proof of visiting Macau.

Eventually we still walked through the main route back down to Senado Square. Along the way we squeezed through the crowd, which had dwindled significantly by the time we took the route, we visited several shops, even got some items from the Quiksilver shop, as well as foodstuff from Koi Kei, the famous chains of local favourites.

We then walked all the way back to our hotel to put down our souvenirs and stuff and rested for a while. Then it's dinner time! I had wanted to bring dear to this place which I visited on my previous trip to Macau with Hong Ming and Boon Keong a year ago. Didn't take too much trouble finding the place cos Macau is so small.

Upon entry to the restaurant, it gave me a feeling that it's a different management altogether. Looks like the Chinese have taken over the restaurant because the workers look like mainland Chinese. Even the food we ordered didn't remind me of the food that I had a year ago.

We ordered several other things but was stopped and questioned by the staff as to why I was taking pictures of the food. What attitude was that? Oh well, won't be going back there anymore after such experience. Even the food didn't taste as good as before.

We then took cab to Venetian Macao. Bought some Koi Kei mooncakes from its stall there.

Then at one of the bar area, we saw some salsa dancers performing.

Cool stuff. Didn't have these performances on my previous trip there.

After walking around in Venetian Macao, next was the show that I had planned to go catch with dear. It was this magnificent show that I recommend all visitors of Macau to catch. Details of the show is here.

Youtube contains many videos of the show, but it's strongly recommended to watch it LIVE. Simply for the 360 degrees of amazing video and wonderful sound system and lighting. Shall not comment too much on it. You have to see it to enjoy the full experience.

Who says money can't fall from the sky?

After the show we walked around the hotels but didn't visit the casino. There was another feature of this hotel - Vquarium. It's a large screen showing lifelike mermaids swimming around.

Not sure whether there's a Hard Rock Cafe here.

The kids were fascinated with the mermaid on the right.

We took a shuttle bus to Galaxy Hotel. Traveling is such a convenience around Macau because most hotels/casinos are linked to each other via free shuttle service. Galaxy is a very new hotel casino. It wasn't built when I was there in Jan 2010.

That ends the casino tour of Macau. We took another free shuttle back to Star Hotel and walked back to our hotel.

Then it's another indulgence again as we ordered instant noodles for supper lol.

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 06/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第五天

It's the fifth day already!?

We had free breakfast again. This time we ordered different sets from the previous day. Some fruit platter and another is parfait set. Really have nothing else to say except it's AWESOME! Really recommend this hotel if you don't mind the obscurity of the place.

We went to look for another place recommended by Nut Nut, located in Mongkok. In fact we had wanted to go for this dim sum restaurant on the previous night, however it was too late by the time we reached the restaurant. It closes at 9:30pm.

We reached at around 1:30pm and were told that we had to wait up to 3pm to get a seat. WTH!? We immediately dumped the idea of having dim sum there and opted for 稻香 again.

We went to the same place again. This time no doubt we were in time for their dim sum menu. But problem was, the restaurant was full house and we had to wait for a while to get our table. We shared our table with an old couple, as well as four other ladies.

And so we ordered so many items that we end up dabao-ing some of them hahaha. But the food was indeed so good that we did not regret ordering so many different items.

Dear's favourite is carrot cake so she ordered four more pieces of this 香煎萝卜糕.
And she ate all of them! O_O

What a scrumptious meal. Almost couldn't walk after that. We then made our way back to the hotel to grab our luggage. Had to take this special arrangement of bus service because part of the MTR line was disrupted due to some construction going on. Interesting experience eh? I believe we were also captured on TV because there were cameramen shooting passengers taking this free service. OMG we're overnight celebrities lol.

Of all times they had to do this during our short trip in HK lol.

The westernmost station on Hong Kong Island was closed for renovation/construction.

From our hotel, we walked a distance to the Macau Ferry Terminal. It was part of my plan to take this hotel since it's within walkable distance of the ferry terminal. Did not expect it to be such a chore since I had to pull our 20-kg luggage across several streets, up the stairs, across an overhead bridge, to reach the terminal. Felt like I did some strenuous exercise. But all was good and we got our tickets to the ferry to Macau almost immediately when we reached the ticket counter.

Before long, we hopped onto the ferry bound for Macau and were ready to say goodbye to lovely Hong Kong.

And within one hour, we reached Macau!

Took the free shuttle service from the ferry to our hotel, Metropark Hotel, within 10-15 mins.

In fact, most of the hotels in Macau surely has some free shuttle service to the ferry. So you can hop onto any service if you wanna go anywhere near those hotels.

We checked into our hotel and was told that since we went for the 2 + 1 room, cos that was the cheaper alternative to the available rooms when I made the online reservation, the concierge guy offered to change to this superior room with just a king-size bed with a large living room. Since we don't need the third bed, so we decided to go for this exchange. And it was a pleasant surprise. The room was really one of the biggest in the hotel. Comes with everything you need, as well as a TV area big enough to place two mahjong tables.

We were watching Channel News Asia lol.

All the controls for the lighting, music, air-con etc.

Even comes with a free soft toy bear bearing the words "Special For You 为您而设".

It was rather late already by the time we settled down. We then walked along the streets of Macau to admire the beauty of the hotels and casinos. By the time we finished the tour, it was probably 10+pm. There wasn't much places to choose from for dinner by that time, so we went for a restaurant called 鼎泰丰 (not the restaurant chain in Singapore) near our hotel which sells really Chinese cuisine. Not very nice, so not worth mentioning.

Went to check out a few other casinos before calling it a day. Shagged! Needed a good night's sleep to chiong the rest of Macau on the following day.

Just some additional pictures of the cool designs in this hotel.

This hotel also has an iPhone/iPod Touch player-cum-alarm clock.

We woke up to have breakfast at 10am. It's a complimentary breakfast. The cafe itself is also very small and compact. But seriously you can't judge a book by its cover. The breakfast sets that they serve are of the highest standards. There were many to choose from and we decided to choose the two sets below.

The taste and presentation of the breakfast really doesn't deserve the hotel being rated as 3-stars. We could see a Caucasian chef preparing the breakfast sets. Simply a wonderful start to a new day in Hong Kong.

This eggs benedict is just mouth-watering.

We then walked past one of the interesting historical buildings around the area. Then we went to take the train to look for our next must-try restaurants in Hong Kong.

And we found it! Somewhere in Jordan. Highly anticipated cos of this blog entry we found that features this restaurant. The blogger mentioned "Me satisfying the breakfast", which made us remember it for its funniness. Nut Nut said that we must try out this restaurant and therefore we made sure we got all the info to get there easily.

The restaurant could be easily recognized from afar for its huge signboard bearing the words 澳洲牛奶公司 in reverse. And the moment you step in, if you manage to, you can feel the waves of air rushing past you as the waiters and waitresses zoom back and forth serving the endless flow of customers. Only one Chinese idiom to describe their business - "门庭若市".

And the menu contains sooooooooo many items, dunno what to choose.

In fact it's so smooth and tasty that Momo wanna go HK again just for this.

Next up we tried this seemingly popular dessert place called Hui Lau Shan Healthy Dessert 许留山. It has outlets almost everywhere we go, so we decided to find out what's making all these locals and tourists go for their desserts.

Their specialty should be the mango range of desserts. In order to save our stomachs for other things, we only ordered one item from the menu. The mango sure is fresh and tasty.

You'll definitely see its outlets anywhere you go in HK.

A cold mango dessert on a hot and humid day sure does wonders.

We then walked along the streets and did some shopping. Visited an Espirit factory outlet and we bought a few pieces of clothing from it.

Why do I have a feeling that I am in Japan?
The streets and buildings all look the same to me.

We came across this building which sort of resembles the style of bugis street. Many small shops selling all kinds of interesting things like figurines, household items, comics, clothes, accessories, etc.

Hong Kong people are also crazy over such items.

I wanna own this whole set!

We spent much of our time shopping and walking around that we eventually found ourselves having dinner at 10+pm. Was so famished by that time that we HAD to find something nice to eat asap. We went to one of those normal-looking Hong Kong local restaurants.

Ordered the beef hor fun. To our amazement, it was so damn good!

The succulent beef was a great treat.

Can't remember where it was. But sure is a nice place to visit for a meal.

That's all for day four of our trip. OMG time passes so quickly and we're halfway through our trip!

One Night In Mongkok.

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 04/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第三天

Good morning! 早晨! (good morning in Cantonese).
We only realized this clock can put iPhone/iPod Touch on our last day of stay hahaha.

It's the third day already! How fast? We have to check out of the hotel by that day. It was a damn tiring day on the previous day at Disneyland, but of course equally rewarding and exciting experience. Therefore we slept until almost 11. Packed our luggage and got ready to check-out and move on to the next hotel.

Welcome to Hong Kong! I mean, Hong Kong station.

Had a very hard time looking for the next hotel, Hotel De Edge By Rhombus. I seemed to have missed out a very good map of the area. In the end spent almost half an hour looking for the place. Did not expect the hotel to be THAT far from the MTR station of Sheung Wan, the western most station on Hong Kong island. Walked past several streets which were super ultra old and difficult to pull our luggage on. The streets had many old shops selling all kinds of 海味 etc. Some of the shops sold rice or other 干粮. Indeed quite an old area of Hong Kong. But this hotel was erected right in the middle of several other tall buildings. It's definitely not in the most eye-catching of places. Its small lobby amongst the other old shopfronts made it even harder to spot.

The reception area was a petty little space with only about 4m in length at most and 1m in width lol. However the rooms were a stark contrast to its other appearance. The window shades were even mechanically drawn up or down by the flip of a switch next to the bed.

The flatscreen tv was mounted on the wall and could be pulled out to face the bed.

It was rather late after we settled down. Momo contacted Nut Nut to ask her to recommend nice places to visit for meals. She suggested 鱼米家 near Central station. It is a restaurant just at the corner of a building and next to a flight of stairs containing many souvenir shops on each side.

We entered the restaurant at about 4pm, therefore the place was rather empty. We ordered the house specialty of course, the fish bee hoon. Super ultra big bowl. Stupid us should have just ordered one but we ordered one each. We also ordered some 炸奶 and bubble tea. Not really the best meal of our trip. And not really satisfying...

Hmm won't recommend the specialty dish, but maybe others are better.

We then walked up the staircase right outside and Momo got a pink sling bag. Helped to slash the price until HK$100. But I think the cost price could be much less than half of it lol. The whole slope was full of weird souvenir shops. Some of them sold Halloween costumes and other weird stuff.

So the next place we're headed to was The Peak. It was within walking distance from Central station, therefore we walked to the Peak Tram Terminus. Quite a long walk actually. And it was upslope. We even walked past one Citibank building.

Over at the tram terminus. Holy cow. Super ultra long queue. We were very late. It was already 7pm when we reached the terminus. Luckily I saw one guy wearing the Madam Tussaud's shirt holding onto some price list for combo package of a 2-way tram ride + entry to Madam Tussaud + entry to The Peak Sky Terrace for only HK$210. Therefore we almost skipped past the whole length of the queue to go right up in front. It's a priority queue for those who purchased the combo tickets.

Just look at the crowd! This is madness! This is ~~SPARTA~~ Hong Kong!

The funicular, or cliff railway, actually goes up to 35-40 degrees incline, I believe. OMGness!

And we reached the peak in a jiffy! The only painful wait was for our turn to get onto the tram. The whole place was flooded with PRCs and Koreans mainly. But it's the PRCs who were pushing and shoving their way like there's free gold bars on the trams. Then suddenly a PRC guy shouted something like "why must you all push? will die is it?" and then everyone stopped pushing and there was a dead silence. Kudos to that guy, otherwise people might have been pushed onto the tracks.

On the Peak, we climbed the building to reach Madam Tussaud's. There was a wax figurine of Bruce Lee at the entrance for all to take pix with. There's also one of Jackie Chan, but you have to pay to take pix with him. WTH!? Decided not to. So boliao. We just entered the place to take pix with the other wax figurines.

The whole wax museum spans three storeys and contains more than 100 wax figurines. Quite cool. Can't imagine having a replica of myself standing at some place. Kage bunshin no jutsu!

We then saw a cute promo for Hong Kong Disneyland with Mickey Mouse statue and Momo can't resist but to take a pic with it.

Next, we climbed to the top floor where there was a queue to enter the Sky Terrace. This was the highlight of the day, I believe. You can actually see the whole of the cityscape of Hong Kong. A very magnificent view. It was getting cold too cos of the height and late at night. Probably 23 degrees or so.

This must be the tallest point of Hong Kong Island.
Momo says those rich artistes like Jackie Cheung could be staying there.

Back down to the shopping area of the Peak.
The 7-Eleven stores are pretty innovative in their shop design.

We went to have dinner/supper at one of the few remaining restaurants still open at 10+pm. Had a bit of fishball bee hoon and some pear drink. There was a long queue to take the tram down to city, therefore we decided to get something to eat and wait for the queue to shrink first.

Not too bad for a short meal.
The warm bee hoon and drink certainly complements the cold weather.

It was already 11+ by the time we reached the bottom. Took the train back to Sheung Wan and then walked all the way back to our hotel. But decided to grab some food from the nearby 7-Eleven. Sandwiches were awesome when you're hungry lol. But the road back to the hotel was infested with cockroaches, one of dear's deadliest enemies. They all came out at night and sprawled all over the sidewalks. Certainly not the best place to build a hotel.

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 03/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第二天

香港澳门之旅第二天：8月3日, 星期三

It was to be a long and tiring but enjoyable fantasy day at Disneyland!

But first up it's breakfast of course! We scouted around Grand Century Place at 10am for breakfast. Finally we found Fairwood! It's a fast-food restaurant specializing in food like toast, scrambled eggs, macaroni, as well as steak, noodles and various other stuff. Something like those HK 茶餐厅. If I remember correctly, they had such a restaurant in the now gone Sogo building, replaced by the existing Tampines One.

After breakfast, we are all set to conquer Hong Kong Disneyland!

Had to transfer a few trains along the way. But it sure was fun traveling on the special train to Disneyland itself. Everything about the train was decorated with Disneyland designs.

Welcome to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

After getting the tickets at HK$399 each, dear went to try out the different hats at the hat stall and finally decided to get one with the mickey ears and polka dots.

It's a damn hot day so good idea to get a hat.

Let's go and see what's inside this huge mansion!

Attraction 19: it's a small world
Location: Fantasyland
Ride duration: ~8 mins

A slow ride inside this castle full of dolls from all over the world, as well as in various other themes, all singing the same song in their various languages. Exactly the same as that in Tokyo Disneyland lol.

Lots of dolls moving and dancing along to the song "It's A Small World".

Next we tried the Mickey's PhilharMagic.
It's actually more of a 4D show as compared to the brochures saying it's 3D.
Get ready to get wet, and don't let your feet touch the floor!

After the show, dear saw this giant Minnie and wanted it so badly. Therefore we got it at the end of the day, just before the fireworks.

Tarzan's Treehouse. We did not attempt to go over and climb the tree. Looks tiring lol.

We went for the Jungle River Cruise. There were queues for English-speaking, Chinese-speaking and Cantonese-speaking guides, therefore we chose the English-speaking one of course. The queue was the shortest some more lol. Therefore we got onto the cruise in no time as compared to the rest still queuing in the other queues.

The river cruise brings us around a river full of creatures (fake) and there were plenty of fire and water spewing out from everywhere. Cool effects.

We visited one of the many shops around the theme park, to cool down a bit. The weather was indeed scorching.

So many things to choose from. What should we buy???

This place shows you how animation evolved throughout history, and also showcases how the zoetrope works. Cool!

Attraction 16: Fantasyland Train Station
Location: Fantasyland

We walked all the way to the entrance to take the train which goes halfway around the whole theme park, stopping at the Fantasyland Train Station. It was about 4pm already and we didn't have lunch, therefore we went to the nearby Royal Banquet Hall, where famous statues of Disneyland couples were displayed.

Famished! But lots of goodies which look too cute to be eaten were around the banquet hall. I chose to get the pizza set and some dim sum. Look at the char siew buns! Really sculptured into little piggies lol. Even the pizza was Mickey Mouse shaped.

Lion King Musical! Don't have to waste money watching in Singapore lol.

Attraction 7: "Festival of the Lion King" (MUST-SEE)
Location: Adventureland
Show duration: 30 mins

This is one show you MUST watch if you're there. This is because it is a mini version of the Lion King Musical. Really worth your money. It's a 30-min show filled with singing and dancing, as well as fire stunts, real moving mechanical creatures from the Lion King and plenty of enjoyment. There's even a revolving stage right in the middle which even rises up several feet! Amazing.

Attraction 23: Space Mountain
Location: Tomorrowland
Ride duration: ~5 mins

This is a fast-paced ride certainly not for the faint-hearted. It's a two-seater indoor roller-coaster in the dark. All you can see are planets and stars moving all around you at the speed of light. The ride accelerated towards the end of the ride. Pretty scary if you ask me, cos you won't know when it will stop and you can't see where you're going. But it all happened in a flash. Freaking exciting.

Attraction 20: "The Golden Mickeys" (MUST-SEE)
Location: Fantasyland
Show duration: 30 mins

Right after that, we proceeded to "The Golden Mickeys" Musical. Also another must-see. It's a musical featuring almost every Disney film like Little Mermaid, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast etc. A relaxing musical just nice for everyone in the family.

Attraction 15: Cinderella Carousel
Location: Fantasyland

Walked past this carousel several times. It's pretty much the same everywhere so we did not attempt to waste time queuing for it.

Attraction 10: Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster
Location: Tomorrowland
Ride duration: ~5 mins

I played this at Tokyo Disneyland too. Exactly the same thing. It's a two-seater ride through a series of bends. Your mission is to shoot at the targets with your laser gun attached to your ride. Quite fun if you're a sharpshooter. Quite boring if you're a bobo shooter.

And that was the last ride for the day. We went to grab the giant Minnie at last and dear was ecstatic. I think she hug Minnie can le hmph. LOL

We were also very hungry by then and so decided to grab something from the bakery. Went for the cheesecake which looked so yummy.

The street now lit up. Looks even more dazzling than it already is.

Waited till 9+ for this show to start. The fireworks were in-sync with the songs being played. What a magical evening it was. Are we dreaming?

Before long, we had to leave the theme park reluctantly. Next was of course dinnertime! We found a 茶餐厅 near Mongkok station and decided to give it a try. The 炸酱面 was power! Loved the taste. The fishball noodles were awesome too! So was the eggtart and bolo bun. And best of all, the lemon tea cost only HK$2 lol. And they called it 冬OT. Have no idea why it was called that. Very satisfying dinner. Very unforgettable and wonderful day. =)

Hong Kong/Macau Trip 02/08/11: 香港澳门之旅第一天

香港澳门之旅第一天：8月2日, 星期二

We woke up at 4:30am to take cab to Budget Terminal, wacauz damn early. But reach there already got long queue checking in zzz. Had to wait like 30 mins to do check-in.

Then it's McDonald's breakfast! Always the same routine. Check-in, McBreakfast.

Then it's an almost 4 hours flight to Hong Kong. It's both our first time taking a plane to HK. The last time I went was via ferry from Macau. Dear was busy snapping pix of clouds throughout the flight while I was trying to doze off on the journey.

Woohoo HK! Doesn't feel much different from Singapore cos the weather is freaking hot! We checked-out and went to get the Airport Express. Didn't know there was a 2-person special package to Kowloon station for only HK$140. Their website says HK$95 for a ticket only. Nevertheless it's a good thing they recommended this package so we took it and went to take the express train. Cool! Another new experience.

Once we reached Kowloon station, we were at this shopping centre called ELEMENTS. Decided to try out this Japanese restaurant for our first taste of HK. Not very appropriate but it's the one of the best around we could find to fill our empty stomachs.

We'll get our dim sum in HK soon. For now any food will do.

Then we took the free airport shuttle to our hotel. They had like 5 different routes going to different parts of HK, visiting several hotels. So convenient. Ours was K5 and we were headed for Royal Plaza Hotel.

Ours was the last stop for this service, so it's a pretty long ride. Once we reached the hotel, we checked in to it and initially got a room at level 18. The moment we entered the room, there was a strong cigarette smell, which prompted us to request for a change of room. They gave us a room on the 19th floor instead. Room 1903. It's a pretty weird architecture cos the main lift stops at level 18 and we had to climb stairs, walking past the level 19 reception area, to our floor. 19 and above are executive rooms. Probably for the added security? Quite stupid...no lift serving our floor. Nevertheless, the view we saw when we entered the room was splendid.

Fwah got ourselves an executive room in this 5-star hotel.

Very spacious room and has everything we need.

Time to take a nap first before we embark on our HK tour.

It was almost 3:30pm by the time we settled down, and the first thing I wanna do was to SLEEP! We took a roughly two hour nap before we headed off for our tour of HK.

First up on our itinerary was to look for this famous dim sum restaurant called 稻香 recommended by Nut Nut. Had no problem looking for this place cos I have done intensive research on how to get there. It's located on level 3 of Carnavon Plaza. Once we reached there we were told that dim sum ends at 4pm! Didn't think that they would end dim sum at such a timing. We reached at 7pm or so. Therefore we had no choice but to try out their dinner menu. They recommended this 2-person set meal consisting of melon soup and mixed meats. The soup was awesome and gave us a good cooling down to prepare us for the heat we're gonna get in the next few days.

First stop is Chinese restaurant 稻香. Dim sum ends at 4pm, therefore we had no choice but to get a 2-person set of mixed meat.

Comes with winter melon soup. Sweet, nutritious and cooling soup to remove the heatiness in us.

In fact I believe this big pot of soup can feed at least 6 people ahaha.

We still managed to finish everything. Burp!

Yes it's situated in Carnavon Plaza near Tsim Sha Tsui station.

I'm pretty sure the pot of soup was meant for 4-6 people. We finished up the whole pot and almost couldn't walk! But it was really nice and too wasted if we din finish it. After the dinner, we shopped around the area and at the nearby Sogo and then walked to the Avenue of Stars for the Symphony of Lights at 9pm.

After the picture-taking session along the Avenue of Stars, we took a train to Mongkok area and visited one of the night markets around the place. Pretty much the same "pirated" stuff we see in other night markets around the world.

Went to one of the many night markets near TST.

Decided to drop by this place. There was quite a queue outside so we thought the desserts should be real good. We ordered just the green bean with beancurd and to our disappointment, it wasn't as good as we thought. What's with the long queue?

Decided to get a dessert after walking such a long distance. Not very nice lol.

Yea it's called Lucky Dessert. And always full house. Wonder what's so nice sia.

After the dessert, we slowly made our way back to Grand Century Place, the shopping centre in which our hotel was sort of connected to it. It had an exit which leads directly to the lounge of our hotel. Very convenient hotel.

So that wraps up the end of Day 1 of HK/Macau tour! More tiring days to come lol.

Tioman Island, Malaysia, 1st to 3rd May 2009

It's about time I started blogging about my short trip to Tioman Island. However, I haven't got the pictures from the others. Everyone started posting their own pictures on Facebook though. I'll only start on the details of this trip once I get all the high-quality pictures from them.

1st May 2009, Friday, Labour Day

We met at Golden Mile Complex at 6am in the morning of Labour Day. Then we boarded the coach and traveled all the way to Mersing to take the ferry to Tioman Island.

We had a bit of light meal at the food centre next to the ferry. Had to wait around 2 hours before we could get onto our ferry. Therefore we hung around the place and took some pictures. This is my Ring Formation™ picture-taking style wahaha! Haven't taken such a shot for a long time.

So it was time to board the ferry. Quite a big ship in fact. Although it's air-conditioned, I still sweat like siao inside. Couldn't really fall asleep even though I didn't sleep a wink the previous night haha! We went to the upper deck to enjoy the scenery and breeze when Tioman Island was within view.

We finally reached the island at 2pm. Wacauz! Then had to wait for the shuttle bus to fetch us to our Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort. Finally we reached our resort rooms at close to 4pm. Wacauz almost 10 hours before we can settle down.

Taiwan Trip 21/06/08: 台湾之旅第五天

台北之旅第五天：6月20日, 星期六, 休闲日

第五天，也就是最后一天了。我们去了台北非去不可的景点 - 中正纪念堂和自由广场。
后来就走到猫山寺，一间蛮普通的庙宇。
你们还记得我叫你们记住的那两位女生吗？我们因为没别的地方去了，所以打算回到第一天去过的西门盯再逛一逛，顺便做最后的购物。没想到刚走进西门盯，我却发现那两位同样的女生走在我们面前！有那么巧吗？新加坡那么小碰到朋友还算很平常。但是台北那么大却让我们在四天内碰到同样的人。难道这是天意？哈哈哈哈！但是我们没上前跟她们搭讪。哈哈！真是可惜hor?

时间也差不多了。我们也就回酒店，收拾行李准备到机场搭飞机了。

我们在飞机场吃Burger King。哇塞。在柜台的服务员非常有礼貌。而且是有礼貌到让我起鸡皮疙瘩的程度。他说了很多，但是用了很温柔，很“娘” 的语气说话，而最后一句真叫人受不了。“薯条刚炸好，小心烫噢” 。

我们也在机场买了最后的土产，然后就搭飞机回到了新加坡。台湾之旅也就告一段落。

Taiwan Trip 20/06/08: 台湾之旅第四天

台北之旅第四天：6月20日, 星期五, 休闲日

第四天的第一个目的地是忠烈祠。忠烈祠在一个鸟不生蛋的地方，所以我们得先搭捷运，再转搭巴士，才能够到那里。

就当我们刚抵达忠烈祠的大门时，兵士们刚好做完“交换岗位仪式” 。所以我们只好逗留多一阵子才能看得到交换仪式。首先跟那几位正在站岗的啊兵哥们拍几张照。他们是动都不能动的。就象Istana外面的MP一样。
我们就在忠烈祠的里面参观到交换仪式开始的时候，就跑过去看个究竟。哇不得了！那些兵士已经把甩枪功夫练得炉火纯青了。我们都看到目瞪口呆。看的人容易，但是对他们来说肯定吃了不少苦头。

下一站就是故宫。不是北京的故宫，而是台湾的国立故宫博物馆。Kah Wai说凡是到故宫的人一定要买那个 “大白菜” 。其实所谓的白菜是一块玉，称为“翠玉白菜”。自然形成象白菜。
那时后我们肚子都饿了，所以先到餐厅去吃一点东西。吃饱后，我们就开始上历史课了。走了大概有三个小时！故宫里面有三层楼的古董和历史文物。要是真的要仔细地参观每件物品，可能六个小时也看不完。我们也看到所谓的“大白菜”。还真的想块白菜。只可惜不能拍照。不过也没什么大不了的啦。哈哈哈哈！后来越来越多旅客和导游把整个博物馆给挤暴了。我们也就购买一些纪念品，然后就决定离开故宫到下一个地点去。

在途中看到了几间有趣的商店。名字非常有趣。

过后我们便到(忘记地方了) 寻找吴宗宪开的一间糖水店，叫做“糖朝” 。结果我们发现那间店已经卖给别人管理了。所以我们也没理由去尝试里面的糖水了。哈哈哈哈！接着我们又去寻找周杰伦开的一间服装店。我们问了很多路人，但是很多都对那间店不熟。后来终于问对人了，到了店里面，才发现只不过是一间很普通的服装店。店里面卖的都是T-shirt、鞋、裤子等的时尚服装。店里正在播的歌当然也是周董的歌啦。我还想偷偷在店里面拍照，但是却被店员发现了。Shit! 所以只好在店外面拍一张照做纪念。
后来就决定到最重要的地点 - 台北101。
我们先到附近走走，看看周围的建筑物。有 eslite bookstore，新光三越 (Shinkong Mitsukoshi) ，Vieshow Cinemas。Oh! Kah Wai还买了冒牌KFC “顶呱呱” 。一点都不顶呱呱。难吃死了！
我们在新光三月百货商店里面逛了一阵子，结果出来后天快黑了。所以我们就开始前往台湾101走去。在途中看到周杰伦的游戏广告。
在台北101里面看到奇怪的东西。
我们买了入门票(NT$400) ，然后乘搭所谓世界上最快的电梯到89楼室内观景台。不到一分钟就到了。电梯里面还有服务员讲解关于台湾101的事。他还用华语和日语讲解呢。

到了89层，我们租了免费的语音导览器(pre-recorded voice guide) ，就各自参观室内的物品和欣赏美景。我们也到了88楼的世界最大风阻尼器区(Super Big Wind Damper) 和91楼的户外观景台。
参观完后，我们就搭电梯回到地球。我还拍了几张电梯里一片电视银幕的一切降低过程。
过后我们男生还到了国父纪念馆，因为我从网上读到，说从那个角度可以拍到台湾101很好的镜头。
拍完照后，又是吃东西的时候了！我们到永和路找世界豆浆大王，并且叫了很多食物。爽！

Taiwan Trip 19/06/08: 台湾之旅第三天

台北之旅第三天：6月19日, 星期四, 大自然观赏日

我们大概9点起床，然后就到餐厅吃自助餐。每天的早餐都包括在酒店费内。而且每天的食物都是大同小异的。吃到第三天有点腻了。
填饱肚子后，我们上了特地雇用的minivan。司机便带我们到了十分风景特定区入口处。从入口处到十分瀑布其实还蛮遥远的。必须走一段路，过一个桥，才到十分瀑布。其实也没什么好看的。只不过是一个小瀑布而已。高度应该跟Suntec City的Fountain of Wealth差不多。我还记得我们还笨笨的穿了长裤。走了那么长的一段路，弄到汗流浃背。再加上瀑布的水滴，简直弄到湿透了。
回到入口处，我发现有盖章可以把图案盖在我的笔记本上，就顺便盖一盖。照片会在Souvenirs Corner看得到。

下一站是九份。九份是个山区，而且住满了许多居民。司机让我们下车，然后绕着两排的商店和餐馆一直走着。我们每个都尝试了九份传统鱼丸的综合鱼丸汤。有大的小的。但是不知道鱼丸里面是什么陷料。照吃就对了。哈哈哈！也没什么。普普通通。在鱼丸店旁边有个“阿信的店” 。我们从那间店买了一些土产。走了大概两个小时，我们便上了minivan，然后司机就带我们到海边观光了。
首先看到大海。但是大海有两个颜色。根据司机的了解，以前这个地区都是炼铜厂。而这些铜都不小心被排到大海里，所以才把大海都污染了，产生现在所看到的现像。一半是铜色，一半是海的自然色。所以人们把这里的海叫做“阴阳海”。
我们就沿着海边的道路行使着。有时后便停下车拍几张照，然后再继续。最后我们到了一家海鲜店品尝当地的海鲜。随便叫了几道菜。吃了过后觉得新加坡海鲜还是最棒的。哈哈哈。而且我们应该被敲了一笔。我忘记那餐海鲜花了多少钱，但是我记得应该挺贵的。吃饱完了，司机就把我们载回酒店。
已经花了整天走路和坐车，我们都精疲力竭了。可是为了不要浪费晚上的时间在酒店休息，我们便到了五分埔服饰区逛街。那里就像Bugis Street的拥挤。服装更是琳琅满目。但是对我们男生来说，购物不是我们的第一目标。品尝当地美食才是最重要的。哈哈哈哈！
接着我们便走到饶河街观光夜市“吃”个究竟。已经是第三天了。看到的夜市都觉得大同小异。不过我们还是照样看到好吃的东西就买来吃。
我们玩了一些无聊的游戏，如捉鱼，射气球，捉plush toy等。这也就结束了台湾游第三天。

Taiwan Trip 18/06/08: 台湾之旅第二天

台北之旅第二天：6月18日, 星期三, 温泉与观河日

第二天早上，我们搭捷运到新北投站。然后再走十五分钟左右，到了地热谷。地热谷是个自然温泉。我们一到温泉的附近就闻到一股很重的硫磺味(sulphur smell)。而且周围的温度更是比当天的温度高出很多。那几天的天气已经算是非常炎热了。温度最少也有32 degrees Celcius左右。在地热谷那里应该有40多度吧。简直是热到要命！好象在桑拿室里。我们都全身湿透了。可以很清楚的看到水蒸气从地热谷散发出来，而且水的温度看起来肯定可以煮熟一粒鸡蛋！

过后，我们就随便选了一间温泉，那就是“美代温泉饭店”。因为它看起来最豪华，最舒适的。当然价钱也是最贵的。我们三个男生应该是选择了“三色风吕”。里面有三个不同的温泉。一个是冷水，一个是很烫的温泉，另一个是非常烫的温泉。我们多数都是躲在第一和第二个温泉。最烫的那个我们都受不了。真是浪费。Hahaha!而且还好我们拿的是一个小时的温泉。如果拿的是两个小时的，那就更浪费了。

泡完温泉后，我们打听到附近一间相当受欢迎的餐馆。所以我们便到“温泉拉面”去试一试。从店外面虽然看起来面积不是很大，不过里面还是蛮多位子可以容纳二十到三十个人左右。店外面也摆了几张桌子，而且都挤满了客人。幸好我们找到了里面的座位。我们都各自叫了不同的拉面。我和Kah Wai同样叫了英雄叉烧拉面，因为名字听起来最steady的。其实味道还不错，而且料也蛮多的。有鸡蛋、叉烧、鱼饼、mussel等。我们也叫了温泉鸡蛋和温泉豆腐。其实也就是普通的蒸蛋和豆腐。

吃饱过后，我们便开始向MRT station走去。在途中我们发现了“北投温泉博物馆”，所以便进去参观一下。
接着我们经过一个露天温泉。原来那就是我们原本要去的温泉。价钱便宜到烂。真浪费！我们也经过一个叫凯达格栏文化馆(Ketagalan Culture Center)的地方，便进去参观参观。
Next stop: 淡水
淡水是最北部的终点站。那里的风景还不错。看看照片就知道了。

我们沿着岸边一排的商店走着。看到非常多小吃店。看到要尝试的Tall Ice-cream！小支的才10元。大的也只不过20元而已。所以我们都买了大支的。看起来还很美，但是味道不怎么样。好不容易才把ice-cream吃完。还把整只手弄到黏黏的。

我们坐船到了渔人码头。Oh 我发觉有两位女生之前在淡水岸边一直在自拍。而且为什么我会注意到她们呢？因为其中一位很漂亮。Hahaha!可是看不出她们是那里的人。我觉得长的象香港人。结果她们也跟我们搭同样的一艘船。So lucky!Hahah!后来当船快要到渔人码头的时候，天不做美，便下起阵雨。所以当船到达码头后，我们都冲到岸边的商店避雨。请大家记住那两位女生，因为我还会提起她们的。LOL!她们也自己到处走走了，到后来只看到她们擦肩而过一两次。

我们第一站就去试试淡水阿给。它只不过是豆腐包粉丝而已。其实没什么特别的。味道咸咸的。

我们也到了arcade玩投篮球，而且是三个人一起投。Hahaha! Play cheat!而由于下着雨，所以我们到餐厅休息和吃一些点心和奶茶之类的东西。

渔人码头最引人注目的就是由陈水扁总统命名的“情人桥”。它的形状非常特别。看看照片就知道了。那座桥再加上美丽的风景，的确象来到一个仙境。所以我拍照就拍了几十长。

还好过后便雨过天晴了。而且刚好太阳下山了。那时的景色简直无法形容。真的想在那儿逗留久一些。只可惜少了一个情人在我的身边。要不然多浪漫啊。Haha!

当我们都欣赏完渔人码头的美景后，天已经黑了。而且又开始下大雨了。我们又搭船回到淡水。到岸后，就随着小吃街走着。结果发现又有阿给店。原来这间才是正宗的阿给店。所以我们毫不犹豫地又坐下来品尝那里的阿给，再加上一碗鱼丸汤。Shiok!天气冷吃到一碗热鱼丸真的是爽呆了。

我们再继续走着，看到我们must-eat list的大肠包小肠。结果还买了烤鱿鱼，到一间卖黑豆花的小吃店享受我们的战例品。

这才结束我们一天的旅程。累到不行了。不过，回到酒店时，我又开始觉得肚子饿了。结果我一个人到酒店对面的24hr便利店买了面包和一罐台湾啤酒。Hahaha!

Taiwan Trip 17/06/08: 台湾之旅第一天

已经拖了那么久，我终于开始写我的台湾之旅的一切过程。Hehehe. 其实应该叫“"台北之旅”，因为整个旅游都是在台北市，but never mind!

台北之旅第一天：6月17日, 星期二, 美食日(其实每天都是美食日，hahaha!)

一到达台北机场，我们(Me, Kah Wai, Wing Kin, Kah Wai's two cousins)便程搭旅行社安排的minivan到酒店，叫做"福君海悦大饭店" or "Fortune Haiyatt Hotel"。它的地点是在台北市中心的"台北车站/Taipei Main Station"(MRT Station)附近。我们的房间是812和813。我们男生在812号，而且有三张床。房间看起来还不错。有趣的是，从睡房可以直接由一片半透明的墙看到浴室里冲凉的人的影子。还好不是完全透明。Hahaha! 我们一摆好行李便冲向MRT去了。

我们先是由一个象是CityLink的"台北地下街" 走到台北车站。我们并没有逛地下街的商店，因为真的是琳琅满目，什么都有卖。到了台北车站，看到的是类似新加坡的City Hall MRT Station的画面。都是一样人潮汹涌。我们便到一个悠游卡(EasyCard)售卡机购买价值NT$500的悠游卡(就象EazyLink Card一样)。买了卡，我们便搭捷运(台北人把MRT称为捷运)到我们的第一站:西门盯。

一踏出地铁站，给我的感觉有点象跟我上一次从日本的Shibuya Station走出来的感觉非常相似。看到周围都是五颜六色的billboard和大厦。我们先到附近的西门红楼去看看。其实是个小剧院，也没什么好看。我们在它的大厅绕了一圈就出来了。然后我们沿着西门盯那条街走着，感觉也是跟走在Shibuya的感觉一样。都是两排的商店，卖的都是一些美食和最流行的服装。第一个任务就是寻找我们的MUST EAT LIST的阿宗面线。哇！一提到阿宗面线我就垂涎三尺了。味道真的是一极棒！真的难以形容。总之就是到了台北西门盯的话，是个非吃不可的小吃。小碗40元(~S$2)。大碗 55元(~S$3)。我们的策略是不要第一个美食就把肚子给填饱。一定要留一些位来品尝其它的小吃。所以我们三个大男人便分享了一碗大碗的面线。Kah Wai的两个female cousins也share了大碗的面线。

接着，我们就分了两组人各走各的路。我和Kah Wai和Wing Kin就随便走走，也随便式了其它的小吃。走累了便去了一间奶茶店。我们到了二楼歇了好一阵子。我叫了一杯strawberry smoothie。OMG!没想到是那么大一杯。

接着，Kah Wai的cousins也上来喝水和休息。歇完后，我们在夜间的西门盯再绕一些，然后就搭MRT到我们的下一站:士林夜市。

我们搭到剑潭站便下车了。然后走不到五分钟就到达士林夜市。哇!真的不得了。那里更是人山人海。而且当天只不过是周日。我这里就长话短说。我吃的东西有:香炸臭豆腐(NT$45 for 12粒)、胡椒饼(NT$45)、豪大大鸡排(NT$50)、豆奶豆花爽(NT$45)。当然不是我一个人吃完这些东西啦。填饱肚子后，我们就搭MRT回到台北车站，然后走路回酒店。

其实在MRT上摆了很多海报叫人们要让位给老幼妇残。很多都非常搞笑。在途中我们经过很多24小时营业的minimart。就象我们这里有7-11和Cheers。那里有至少四五种这样的minimart。在7-11的玻璃窗上看到一张有趣的招聘海报。
